Jonathan M. Sykes, MD, F.A.C.S. is a Professor Emeritus and formerly the Director of Facial Plastic Surgery at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. In addition he served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for up to a decade. With over 20,000 surgical procedures performed, Dr. Sykes has years of expertise in procedures such as rhinoplasty and aging-related surgeries like facelifts, browlifts, and eyelift surgeries.

He is experienced in correcting cleft deformities and performing craniofacial surgery and serves as a thought leader and educator in the cosmetic thread industry. Dr. Sykes was recognized as one of the Best Aesthetic Injectors in America for 2019-2021 and has also been featured in the world’s leading media outlets, including the NY Times, Vogue Magazine and Real Self. On the academic front, Dr. Sykes has written and edited over 200 scientific articles and has reviewed scientific papers for the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Laryngoscope. Dr. Sykes is also passionate about imparting his wealth of knowledge to others in his field, and has instructed medical professionals on various neuromodulator techniques, and has given over 1000 lectures locally and internationally, with live demonstrations of surgeries in over 15 countries.

Throughout the years, he has contributed to the training of over 75 residents and personally training 28 fellows in facial plastic surgery. As a seasoned expert, Dr. Sykes also believes in giving back to society and has participated in 25 humanitarian missions to countries including the Philippines, El Salvador, Honduras, Russia, Bolivia, Brazil, and China. Recently, he also co-chaired the Many Faces of Giving campaign for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and helped raise over $4 million for F.P.S. education, humanitarian efforts, and research. In recognition of his services, Dr. Sykes has been awarded the prestigious William Wright Teaching Award and the 1887 Award for Community Service and Humanitarian Missions by the AAFPRS. Dr. Sykes, Board-Certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology, will be joining Dr. Covey, EsthetixMD’s on-site medical director, as the Chief Medical Director.
